Are you a researcher interested in turning data into information?

Knox City Council has an exciting opportunity for a motivated data enthusiast to join its City Futures department as City Researcher. This permanent, part-time position (3 days per week) will suit someone keen to apply research skills to support evidence-based policies, planning and evaluation processes that optimise community outcomes and advance the collective vision for a thriving local community.

The City Researcher is a member of the City Research and Mapping team, one of five teams in the City Futures department, which also includes strategic planning, investment and partnerships, sustainability strategy, economic development and the Community and Council Plan. You will work with these teams and staff from all areas of Council to support integrated, strategic and sustainable community outcomes.

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Monitor and evaluate current and emerging demographic, economic, environmental and social conditions in Knox;
  • Analyse, interpret and present data in order to inform organisational priorities, planning, evaluation and policy development;
  • Respond to internal and external customer enquiries for data and research;
  • Build organisational awareness of the variety and value of data and research methods by providing expert advice and promoting the principles of data literacy across Council.

To be considered for this role you will need a:

  • Degree in Social Science, Geography, Planning, Engineering, Statistics or related technical field;
  • Keen interest and demonstrated skill and experience working with data, research methods, statistical analysis, data presentation and reporting;
  • Willingness to test new technologies and innovative approaches;
  • Collaborative approach, focussed on community outcomes;
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to translate analytical insight into practical advice;
  • Experience with technical software packages (mapping, survey development and analysis, data presentation and visualisation) would be advantageous
