Senior Research Officer - Developing Independence
Brotherhood of St Laurence
Deadline: Monday 1st April 2019

Summary of program and its objectives:

The Research and Policy Centre at the Brotherhood of St Laurence is uniquely positioned. We work closely with the Brotherhood’s service development and delivery on the ground, and connect this work with broader social policy advocacy. As one of the largest research centres outside of academia, we seed new approaches to social policy, programs and practice that help shape a better future for individuals, families and communities experiencing poverty, inequality and social exclusion.

Main responsibilities of the role:

The Youth Research Team at the Brotherhood of St Laurence Research and Policy Centre is seeking a Senior Research Officer to conduct the developmental evaluations of pilots testing a new approach to supporting service-connected young people in their transitions from care. This approach aims to shift the focus of services away from managing individualised deficits towards expanding young people’s capabilities, based on their goals and aspirations.

The Senior Research Officer will undertake the ongoing research and evaluation of the Certificate I in Developing Independence (DI) pilots and the related Brighter Futures pilot project. The Certificate I in Developing Independence is a formally accredited, foundation level course with the goal of assisting service-connected young people without appropriate family, personal and community networks to (re)engage in education and training.
