The Neighbourhood Justice Centre (NJC) is Australia's first community justice centre. Key aspects of the NJC approach include early intervention; appropriate dispute resolution; local problem solving; and one stop integrated service delivery with a focus on addressing the underlying causes of offending. Strong community involvement, engagement and partnerships, which deliver real and practical results for the community, are fundamental to the NJC approach.

The Neighbourhood Justice Officer and the Children’s Neighbourhood Justice Officer (referred to as NJ Officer) is a position created under the Courts Legislation (Neighbourhood Justice Centre) Act 2006. The NJ Officer role combines both positions in one role.

This role is a dedicated officer who can be present during court proceedings and provide a nexus between the court and its services, including the NJC Client Services team. The NJ Officer will also facilitate case management and assist with the co-ordination of services. The role maintains strong productive relationships with NJC justice stakeholders and maintains referral and facilitation protocols.

The NJ Officer will operate in a community orientated environment and will also participate in local community engagement and education with the community regarding the NJC and the functions of the NJC Court.

As the incumbent is currently on secondment, the successful candidate will be appointed through to January 2021, with a possibility of continuing. The role will report directly to the NJC General Manager for an initial period to be determined.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a criminal justice/ community sector.
